Chiropody Frequently Asked Questions
-
Chiropody is a special allied health care service that involves the assessment, management and prevention of foot and lower limb disorders, abnormalities, injuries, diseases and infections by the use of therapeutic or orthotic means.
Chiropodist/Registered Foot Specialist is a regulated medical professional with an extensive training in lower limb biomechanics, dermatology, infectious diseases and diabetic wound care.
Chiropodists specialize in the recognition, assessment, treatment, and ongoing care of the foot – and are an essential member of our health care team.
-
There is no difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist.
-
Feet are your body's foundation, so keeping them healthy is vital to your overall health.
Registered chiropodists under Circle Care treat patients using evidence-based management plans that are individual to your care.
Our registered chiropodists are skilled in various techniques, and treatments aim to alleviate foot pain, improve gait mobility, and treat other foot-related health conditions such as nails, bunions, wounds, and plantar fasciitis to maintain healthy feet.
Chiropody treatments are embarked by providing assessments, management and home care protocols for acute/chronic conditions and foot abnormalities. Our Chiropodist will also aid in the prevention of injury and disability, going above and beyond ensuring you can return back to normal activity free of foot pain.
-
Most insurance companies will accept a medical doctors’ and chiropodists’ prescription, and occasionally a chiropractor’s prescription for orthotics.
-
Patients should expect to be asked a series of questions about their specific foot ailment, as well as questions relating to their general health history, medications they are taking, activity level, and foot concerns. This provides relevant information to the chiropodist that is important in assisting them to properly determine the cause of the patient’s foot concern. Patients will be asked to sign a consent to treatment to permit the examinations and/or any treatments the chiropodist deems appropriate and necessary.
